Professor Mauro F. Guillén
Director

Mauro F. Guillén is the Director of the Joseph H. Lauder Institute at Penn. He holds the Dr. Felix Zandman Endowed Professorship in International Management at the Wharton School and a secondary appointment as Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology of the University of Pennsylvania.  He received a PhD in sociology from Yale University and a Doctorate in political economy from the University of Oviedo in his native Spain. His current research deals with the internationalization of the firm, and with the impact of globalization on patterns of organization and on the diffusion of innovations.  His most recent books are The Rise of Spanish Multinationals (Cambridge University Press), and The Taylorized Beauty of the Mechanical (Princeton University Press).  He is also the author of The Limits of Convergence: Globalization and Organizational Change in Argentina, South Korea, and Spain (Princeton University Press, 2001), and Models of Management (The University of Chicago Press, 1994).  He sits on the board of trustees of IMDEA in Madrid, Spain.




Dr. Lynn Hollen Lees
Co-Director

Dr. Lees has been at Lauder for 5 years and at the University of Pennsylvania for over 30 years. She is presently a Professor of History, teaching in the area of European social history and the history of European empires. Her current research is in the economic and social history of the Malay peninsula. Her responsibilities as co-director include the Master’s in International Studies degree program, academic advisor for the School of Arts & Sciences elective course selection, and thesis topic and advisor selection. Lynn also serves as Chair of the Graduate Group in International Studies, which oversees the academic content of the MA program.

Dr. Lees hold a BA degree from Swarthmore College and MA and Ph.D. degrees in History from Harvard University.




Dr. Sherrill M. Davis
Managing Director

Dr. Davis joined the Lauder Institute 11 years ago. As Managing Director, Sherri oversees the program as a whole and serves as the primary advisor to students for academic matters. She works closely with the Wharton Graduate Division and the School of Arts & Sciences in the planning and execution of the Institute’s programs and activities.  Sherri also serves as Managing Director for the Penn Lauder CIBER (Center for International Business Education and Research), which is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.  Sherri oversees Penn Lauder CIBER programs and activities as well as management of the grant.

Before coming to the institute, Dr. Davis served as a Korea specialist with the United States Information Agency. Before that, she worked at the Asia Society in New York City. Sherri also served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Korea and spent time there as a Fulbright researcher as well. Sherri holds a PhD and MA from Harvard University in East Asian Languages and Civilizations.  Her undergraduate degree in History is from Swarthmore College.




Dr. Marcy R. Bevan
Director
Admissions and External Affairs

Marcy has been with the Lauder Institute more than 20 years.  She is, therefore, in the wonderful position of knowing all the graduates! Her responsibilities include admissions, Alumni relations, financial aid, and coordinating special events, such as the Executive Lecture Series.

She was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She received a B.A. in English from Mills College. Additionally, she received an EdD (Doctorate of Education) in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004.




Dr. Kenric Tsethlikai
Director
Language & Culture Programs

Kenric is the newest member of the Lauder Institute. He serves as the Director of Language and Culture Programs. In this position, he provides oversight to all eight language programs on campus and abroad. He will work closely with faculty, students and staff to carry out the Lauder Institute’s commitment to excellence in language and cultural training.  He will also work as a consultant to the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business.

A native of the Zuni Pueblo (NM) tribe, he is a certified tester and rater in French for ACTFL’s Oral Proficiency Interview and the Writing Proficiency Test. He regularly trains instructors in teaching for language proficiency through several professional organizations.  He earned his degrees in French from Dartmouth College (B.A.) and Stanford University (M.A. and Ph.D.). Until recently, Kenric was in charge of the French Language Program at the Stanford Language Center.




Melissa Halaway
Associate Director, Language & Culture Programs

Melissa has been with the Lauder Institute since Fall 2005. Her responsibilities include working closely with the language faculty, coordination of the language programs and the institute’s summer immersion programs.

Prior to joining the institute, Melissa worked at the English Language Programs at Penn where she designed language curriculum and taught English to foreign students. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in French Language and Literature and an MS Ed in TESOL and Secondary Education.




Kathryn Homa
CIBER Program Coordinator

Kathryn joined the Lauder Institute as the Program Coordinator for Penn Lauder CIBER in January 2008. She works with the many projects that fall under the CIBER grant including organizing the Summer Institute for Teaching Business Language.  Prior to coming to the Lauder Institute, Kathryn worked at Penn’s Office of International Programs where she had worked since 2006.  Kathryn’s undergraduate degrees are from Washington State University in Foreign Language and Literatures – German and Political Science – Global Affairs.  She is currently pursuing her MS in Education, Intercultural Communication from Penn's Graduate School of Education.




Nellie Kanjo

Nellie Kanjo
Associate Director, Admissions and Student Affairs

Prior to working at Penn, Nellie was a Senior Student Finance Advisor as well as an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor. Her financial aid and admissions background was a perfect fit for the position of Coordinator of Admissions and Student Affairs. Her responsibilities at Penn include managing Lauder Admissions operations; recruiting prospective students for the University at various events throughout the country; and advising students of admissions requirements, programs of study, campus visits, financial aid, and residence life. Additionally, Nellie works closely with the student and alumni volunteers involved in admission functions and assists with the coordination of special events.

Allysia Murphy
Information Systems Support Specialist

Allysia has worked at Wharton for 18 years, but has been with the Lauder Institute for 8 years. As our computer guru, she is responsible for software training, technical support, updating software and hardware, and server administration.




Kimberly Norton
Administrative Assistant/Receptionist

Kim's responsibilities include providing administrative support to the Director and serving as a liaison to Wharton and other University offices.

Kim also provides administrative support to the Co-Director and is the contact for the Graduate Group, coordinates arrangements and materials for the annual Board of Governors meetings, maintains current contact information and files and handles correspondence with Board members.




Selma Pastor
Academic Program Coordinator

Selma joined the Lauder Institute in 1988.  Among her various responsibilities, she coordinates the academic records for the Lauder community (including registration for all the INTS courses) and the oral proficiency interviews across our 8 language programs.  She also serves as in-house editorial consultant for the Lauder staff and students.

A native of Philadelphia now residing in nearby South Jersey, Selma earned her BHL and BRE from Gratz College.  She began her 37-year tenure at Penn while completing her MLS at Drexel University.




Ed Tatum
Business Manager

Ed joined the Lauder Institute in the winter of 2004. He is responsible for managing the finances of the Institute as well as the Lauder website.
